In Situ Microwave Sensors and Switching Circuit for Oil Slick Thickness Measurement

چکیده
The measurement of oil slick thickness, although at an early stage, has immense applications in determining the extent and quantity crude accidentally discharged oceans. In this work, we present design, development sensors switching circuit that were integrated to form a novel microwave spill sensor for determination thickness. We used four ultra-wideband polydimethylsiloxane encapsulated antenna-sensors cuboid configuration connected customised RF comprising two single pole double throw (SPDT) switches. Each SPDT switches antennas port vector network analyser (VNA). developed android application on smartphone select each thickness measurements. operated radiating near-field regions. Crude lower density compared salted seawater, therefore, it floats surface. This enabled four-sensor antenna array establish using radio frequency. simulated measured transmission coefficients showed capability determine contact-based situ approach.

The Challenges of Remotely Measuring Oil Slick Thickness
The thickness of oil spills on the sea is an important but poorly studied topic. Means to measure slick thickness are reviewed. More than 30 concepts are summarized. Many of these are judged not to be viable for a variety of scientific reasons. Two means are currently available to remotely measure oil thickness, namely, passive microwave radiometry and time of acoustic travel. Microwave radiome...
متن کاملPrimordial oil slick.
Calculations and some preliminary experiments suggest that an early methane atmosphere would have been polymerized by solar ultraviolet radiation in geologically short periods of time. An oil slick 1 to 10 meters thick could have been produced in this way and might well have been of considerable importance in the development of life.
متن کاملFully Polarimetric Sar Data for Oil Slick Observation
In this study a fully polarimetric electromagnetic model for sea surface Mueller matrix is exploited, under low to moderate wind conditions, to design and experiment a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) oil slick filter. The latter is simple and computer time effective. Experiments, accomplished over C-band Multi Look Complex (MLC) SIR-C/X-SAR data and L-band Single Look Complex (SLC) ALOS PalSAR d...
متن کاملImproved Oil Slick Detection and Classification with Polarimetric Sar
A study on the potential of space-borne polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery for an improved detection and classification of oil spills is presented. An image data set consisting of five SIR-C/X-SAR acquisitions over the North Sea, English Channel, and Southern Italy is used. Results show that two land surface roughness indicators (i.e., the circular polarization coherence (CPC) ...
متن کاملTowards Oil Slick Monitoring in the Arctic Environment
We investigate the potential of multi-polarization and multi-frequency SAR systems to discriminate oil-in-sea-ice mixtures from newly frozen and young sea ice. The dielectric properties of oil emulsions, for a range of oil volume fractions, and theoretical co-polarization ratios for relevant media are modeled and discussed. We also compare the co-polarization ratios computed from actual detecte...
